This fear tricks us into believing that, if we could somehow prevent abandonment, the loneliness would one day vanish. Yet many of us know it can remain even when we’re surrounded by love. While the fear of abandonment is real (and often drives subtle acts of self-betrayal), the loneliness itself has nothing to do with others. It stems from an innerdivision between our Inner Child and Inner Adult. As long as they remain apart, we will fear — and often unconsciously seek or repeat — the same painful patterns.
